Sharing the Good News with North Jersey children!
Christian Youth in Action® (CYIA™) is a program designed to train young people (ages 14+) in effective and engaging ways to teach children about God. Then we give you an opportunity to put that training into practice as you spend the summer sharing the Good News of Jesus with kids. Students ages 12-13 may participate as Junior CYIA and serve as volunteers.
CYIA in North Jersey will attend the statewide Summer Ministry Training School held at Harvey Cedars Bible Conference in Ocean County, New Jersey from June 30 through July 6, 2019. Depending on your previous experience with CEF, you may also attend local pre-training in June.
Training school will prepare you to present the Gospel clearly on a child’s level, counsel a child for salvation, and lead a dynamic club ministry for kids. Components of this club include teaching a Bible lesson, a real-life missionary story and a Bible verse as well as leading songs, games, and a fun review time.
After this training, you will return to your local community and teach 5-Day Clubs® at various locations with a team of other trained workers. These clubs take place in local neighborhoods with predominantly unsaved kids who don’t regularly attend church. You will be able to take the light of the gospel to them in their parks, backyards, apartment complexes, daycare centers, schools, and other community locations.
During your application and interview process, you will be asked to commit to the weeks you will work. Ministry weeks typically consist of teaching two clubs a day (Monday through Friday) one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Clubs will be scheduled based on the availability of you and your teammates.
The first step toward becoming a CYIA summer missionary is completing an application. Applications may be requested from the CEF office or downloaded from cefnorthjersey.org.
All application paperwork must be received by May 15, 2019. Once you have submitted your completed application, the local CEF director will contact you to arrange an interview and explain the next steps in the process.
Serve as a Volunteer or as Summer Staff
Many CYIA choose to serve as volunteers. Others choose to raise support and receive a salary. Like most missionaries, CYIA summer missionaries who choose to serve as paid staff are responsible for raising their own support. Once your application has been approved, the local CEF director will provide guidance on how to build your support team--those who will support you through prayer and financial gifts.
